On the eve of Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu commended the momentous opening of the Ram temple at Ayodhya in her address to the country. She described the temple as a “magnificent structure” and highlighted its significance as a “historic” achievement.

“President Murmu remarked that at the start of the week, we observed the momentous blessing of Prabhu Shri Ram’s effigy within the magnificent temple built at his birth site in Ayodhya. She noted that when viewed in a broader context, this occasion will be regarded by future historians as a significant milestone in India’s ongoing journey to reconnect with its ancient cultural roots.”
She elaborated, “Following appropriate legal proceedings and the ruling of the nation’s supreme court, the temple’s construction began. It now emerges as a magnificent structure that represents not just the religious devotion of the people but also their profound confidence in the legal system.
” In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and a host of other VIPs including spiritual leaders, celebrities, and political figures, the Ram temple was formally consecrated on January 22. As part of the ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony, the Ram Lalla idol, now housed in the most holy part of the temple, was unveiled, succeeding which a detailed sequence of rituals lasting an hour took place.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, built in the classic Nagara architectural style, is supported by a robust structure comprising 392 pillars and 42 doors. These pillars are adorned with elaborate carvings of various Hindu gods and goddesses.
On the occasion of the ‘pran pratishtha’ ritual, a festive atmosphere reminiscent of Diwali took over the nation, marked by the echoes of Lord Ram’s name, the display of posters and saffron flags, the lighting of diyas, and the bursting of firecrackers, as the country rejoiced over this momentous event. Following the significant ceremony, an impressive number of half a million devotees made their pilgrimage to the temple. The temple has opened its doors to visitors, allowing entry from 6 in the morning until 10 at night.
